ABOUT FOLA

My Story

Ms. Fola was born in the United States to parents who migrated from Nigeria. She is the eldest female child of four. Though most of her foundation and education were completed in the United States, at the early age of four, Fola’s maternal grandmother came to visit the family in the US only to see the lack of child care thereof, it was decided for Ms. Fola and her sister who was 2 years old at the time to follow their grandmother to Nigeria to relieve the pressure of child care that her parents were experiencing.

At the fragile age of four is when Ms. Fola’s journey of low self-esteem started. Although she was with family, she realized quickly that she did not like the names she was being called and the way she was being treated. Which eventually caused her to become a people pleaser to prevent people from finding fault in her. Over the years, Ms. Fola having known first hand dealing with issues regarding low self-esteem had conquered her fear of pleasing people and broken relationships.

There were challenges that Ms. Fola had encountered in addition to having a speech impediment that affected how she communicated with the world. These two factors along with a host of things contributed to the development of low self-esteem within herself. It was her high school religion teacher that provided the seed that eventually led Ms. Fola in overcoming her self-esteem in her late thirties. Funny enough, even though Ms. Fola had a very poor perception of herself however, she had a sense of self-pride which can be attributed to her high school religion teacher.

The lesson that she learned from her high school teacher was that you do not allow anyone to place their perception on how you should behave based on your gender.  As a child, Ms. Fola was basically neutral and did not partake in activities that were considered to be feminine in nature. As a result of her high school teacher, she had acquired the concept of singing to her own tune despite societal and Cultural Influence. It is a strange concept to comprehend how one can have low self-esteem and have self-pride both at the same time, but it worked for Ms. Fola.

Ms. Fola considers herself to be a devout woman of faith (Pentecostal Christian). She currently resides in Jamaica, Queens. She’s a licensed social worker (LMSW) and has been working within the social services field for over 20 years. She is an avid reader who loves to play puzzle games for relaxation, she loves helping people get their lives back on track, she loves to travel and loves to spend time with her family. Ms. Fola is looking forward to you joining her membership program in which she will assist you in discovering your own purpose in life.
